C2D2 Calendar (Adobe PDF file)
Congratulations! You’ve gotten an offer! What is the next step?
Carefully consider any offers you receive prior to accepting one. Once you accept an offer in any way, including verbally, the Center for Career Discovery & Development (C2D2) will expect you to honor your commitment. If you need more information before accepting, ask the employer further questions and talk over the offer with your career development advisor. Be aware of deadlines that employers may give you for accepting an offer.
Follow up any verbal acceptance of an offer with an email or letter. Click HERE for a sample acceptance email. You should also provide a “decline” email or letter for any offers you do not wish to accept. Click HERE for a sample decline email.
You will need a written offer letter from the company prior to registering your job with Georgia Tech.
- Enter the placement information about your co-op job in the Experiential Learning Information form. This can be accessed by clicking on the 'Submit/Edit a Co-op/Internship Placement' link under the My QuickLinks section of your CareerBuzz homepage, https://gatech-csm.symplicity.com/students. (On the next screen, click "Add New Experience" and complete the requested fields.) You must complete a new placement form prior to EACH new work term. In planning the beginning and end dates of work with your employer, remember that you must work at least 16 weeks during a fall or spring semester and at least 12 weeks during a summer semester.
- Attach a copy of your offer letter into Placement Documents in the attachments section located at the bottom of the Experiential Learning Information form.
- Review and sign the Co-op Contract & Checklist (Adobe PDF file) and attach it in the Placement Documents section.
- If this is your first work term you are REQUIRED to meet with your career development advisor to have your placement information approved and to obtain a permit for the COOP course. You will be issued a permit for the INTN course only if you complete Steps 1-3 above. If your job is 35 miles or more away from campus, you can also obtain a housing cancelation form from your advisor during this meeting.
In order to view and print the checklist, you will need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader application. Visit the Adobe homepage for download information.

Special Instructions for Co-ops with F-1 Visas
To use Curricular Practical Training (CPT)* for your three required work terms, students should follow these steps:
A. Prior to each work term, provide your GTID, date of birth, the name of employer, address of your work location (including zip code), and the exact starting and ending dates of work for the work semester. These dates should be coordinated with the employer before you provide them to your career development advisor and should be for at least the minimum number of work weeks (at least 16 weeks during a fall or spring semester and at least 12 weeks during a summer semester).
B. The advisor will request that you be allowed to work in the U.S. and the Office of International Education (OIE) will facilitate this approval.
C. Pick up your approved I-20 from OIE after you receive an e-mail that it is ready and remind your career development advisor to issue you a permit for the co-op course.
D. Obtain a social security card if you do not already have one.
CPT authorization can begin prior to the start of the term but will not go beyond the term end date. (No Exceptions)
All CPT requests must be submitted via iStart by C2D2 no later than 12:00pm the Friday before classes begin.
